One of the questions I get asked most often after couples book their wedding photography is, “Where should we do our engagement session?”
The good news is that Eau Claire and Western Wisconsin have so many beautiful locations that photograph differently depending on your style and personality. Whether you love downtown city vibes, quiet nature trails, waterfront views, or wide open spaces, there is a perfect location for every couple.
As an Eau Claire wedding photographer, these are some of my favorite engagement session locations throughout the Chippewa Valley and Western Wisconsin.

Phoenix Park | Riverfront Views & Downtown Charm
If you’re looking for one location that truly feels like Eau Claire, Phoenix Park is always one of my favorite recommendations. Between the riverfront views, walking paths, bridges, open green spaces, and beautiful sunsets, there is so much variety within a short walk.
One of my favorite things about engagement sessions at Phoenix Park is how easily couples can combine natural scenery with downtown Eau Claire. We can start by the water, wander through the park, and finish the session with views of downtown and the riverside trails.
For couples wanting engagement photos that feel romantic, relaxed, and uniquely Eau Claire, Phoenix Park is hard to beat.

Rod & Gun Park | A Hidden Nature Escape
Rod & Gun Park is one of Eau Claire’s hidden gems. The ponds, bridges, willow trees, walking paths, and quiet scenery create such a peaceful atmosphere for engagement photos.
I especially love this location for couples who want beautiful natural scenery without needing to travel far outside the city. The variety of water features and greenery makes it photograph beautifully throughout spring, summer, and fall.
The entire park feels calm and intimate, which helps couples relax and simply enjoy spending time together during their session.

Downtown Eau Claire | Modern, Fun & Full of Personality
For couples who love date nights, local coffee shops, breweries, and exploring the city together, Downtown Eau Claire can be such a fun engagement session location.
The brick buildings, murals, riverwalk, historic architecture, and city lights create a completely different feel than a traditional park session. It feels modern, energetic, and uniquely personal.
Downtown sessions are perfect for couples wanting engagement photos that reflect their everyday lives and favorite places together.

River Prairie Park | Modern Altoona Engagement Photos
River Prairie Park in Altoona is one of my favorite engagement session locations for couples wanting a mix of natural scenery and modern architecture. Between the walking paths, river views, open green spaces, bridges, fountains, and beautiful landscaping, there is so much variety in one location.
One of my favorite things about engagement sessions at River Prairie is how versatile the area feels. We can create romantic photos along the river, use the modern architecture and pathways for a more contemporary feel, and finish the session with beautiful sunset light across the open spaces.
For couples wanting engagement photos that feel relaxed, joyful, and a little bit modern while still being surrounded by nature, River Prairie Park is such a wonderful option near Eau Claire.

Big Falls County Park | Waterfalls & Adventure
For adventurous couples willing to drive a little outside Eau Claire, Big Falls County Park offers some of the most unique scenery in Western Wisconsin.
The waterfalls, rock formations, wooded trails, river views, and natural landscapes create engagement photos that feel timeless and adventurous. Every season brings something different, but the rushing water and dramatic scenery make this location especially beautiful throughout spring and summer.
It’s one of my favorite spots for couples who love hiking, exploring, and spending time outdoors together.

Not Sure Where To Take Your Engagement Photos?
The truth is that the best engagement session location isn’t always the most popular one. Some of my favorite sessions have happened in family fields, at lakeside cabins, on hiking trails, and in places that hold special meaning to a couple’s relationship.
If you have a location that’s meaningful to your story, I’m always happy to help brainstorm ideas and find the perfect spot for your engagement session.
